
Othello. Othello is a strategy board game, akin to Go. National interest in the game peaked in the late 1970s and 80s — which led to the creation of the United States Othello Association (USOA). It sponsored tournaments and a published a magazine, The Othello Quarterly.
The game sparked my interest as well. In 1984, I went on to become the Othello U.S. National Champion and finished third in the World Championship (held in Melbourne, Australia that year).
I was the editor of the Othello Quarterly for several years, writing numerous articles. I also wrote a book on Othello strategy: Othello: Brief & Basic [download].
Psychology. I was a Professor of Psychology at Oakland University (in Michigan) from 1977 until I retired in 2004. My area of speciality was biological psychology — with a special interest in evolution and behavior.
